Message from Agazi School Alumni Association-North America Board Chairman

Fellow alums and friends:

On behalf of the Alumni Association Board of Directors, I want to take this opportunity to wish you a very
happy
and exciting Agazi School Alumni Association- North America’s (ASAA-NA) 20th anniversary celebration. Twenty years of commitment, dedication and service to improve the quality of education at Agazi and surrounding high schools is a significant achievement members and supporters should be proud of. Your contributions are making a big difference in the lives of many students back home. This 20 year anniversary is a time of celebration and recognition. We should also take the time to explore ways to grow and expand our organization.

In the last 20 years, ASAA-NA has provided moral, material and financial support to improve the quality of education. However quality of education still remains to be a critical problem at Agazi high school. If ASAA-NA is to continue to provide support to Agazi high school in improving the quality of education, we need every member and supporter to take part. ASAA-NA also needs to promote collaboration with all Agazi alumni chapters because we all want the same thing – to make it possible for Agazi students to have the opportunity to get quality education that will prepare them to lead a fulfilling life in colleges, universities and beyond; and to actively participate in building and transforming Ethiopia.

One of the critical components to the future success of Agazi high school students and teachers is access to technology based educational materials. For this to happen, ASAA-NA should allocate fund to purchase up-to-date education technology resources (computers, printers, scanners, projectors and other required computer hardwares and softwares) with internet service and redesign the alumni website into a virtual learning environment platform which incorporates electronic books, online classes, and other eResources.

Agazi is very fortunate to have many passionate and dedicated members and supporters like you- who invest their time, talents and resources to create better teaching and learning environment at the school. The 20th anniversary celebration is the end of an era and signals the beginning of a new era in the history of the ASAA-NA. It is in this time of celebration that I ask each of you to recommit to the mission and purpose of ASAA-NA and continue your efforts to recruit new members, expand our circle of supporters, and personally increase your contribution.

To the youth Diaspora Agazian, I urge you to follow the footsteps of those who came before you and become active alumni and play your part in improving the teaching and learning environment for your brothers and sisters back home. There are many ways for you to help the Agazi school, you can help in fundraising; you can go to Ethiopia during summer break and teach English and Math to Agazi students and many more. You will get many benefits from engaging with the alumni association. For example you can use the alumni events, the alumni website and face book to keep connected to your cultural heritage and network with each other, both socially and professionally. This will give you the opportunity to become a positive role model for current students.

On behalf of ASAA-NA Board of directors, thank you for all you have done, for all you are doing, and for all you will do.

Warmest Regards,
Yohannes Woldegabriel (PharmD)
